DIRECTIONS FOR USE
MALACHITE GREEN is a wide spectrum treatment for the control of
external protozoan and fungal diseases of freshwater and marine
fishes. It can be used to treat diseases caused by the following
protozoans: Ambiphyra, Ichtyobodo (Costia), Chilodonella, Cryptocaryon,
Epistylis, Ichthyophthirius and Trichodina at concentrations of
0.05 - 0.15 ppm. It is also effective against diseases caused
by the following fungi: Achlya, Aphanomyces and Saprolegnia.
TREATMENT PROCEDURES AND DOSAGE
Add stock solution to aquarium water to produce a concentration
of 0.05 - 0.15 ppm. Higher dosages are not advisable when treating
fishes sensitive to malachite green . A partial water change should
be made after 24 hours followed by retreatment.
MAKING A STOCK SOLUTION
MALACHITE GREEN is an extremely potent drug. Because of the relative
inaccuracy involved in measuring powders by volume, this product
should only be measured by weight when in the dry, powder form.
To achieve the recommended dosage level, use a stock solution.
Use 0.384 grams (384 mg) per 1,000 mL of deionized or distilled
water (this makes a 0.038% solution). Store stock solution in
a glass or plastic bottle. The stock solution, when used at a
rate of 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water will produce a concentration
of 0.05 ppm.
CAUTION:
Powerful dye and suspected carcinogen
May cause irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. May cause skin
sensitization.
Avoid skin contact. Avoid breathing dust. Use a work area with
a minimum of air movement to prevent blowing of fine crystals
and dust.
Note: malachite green may discolor the silicone sealant used in many aquariums
In case of contact, immediately flush skin or eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. In case of skin contact only, wash with a mild soap or detergent. For eyes get medical attention.
