WET-TAIL PLUS™ is a six-day treatment formulated to treat and prevent diarrhea in most small animals. The WET-TAIL PLUS treatment includes a five-tablet course of anitibiotics, followed by a one-tablet treatment of probiotics (5 days-plus-1 day.) Simply add one fizzing WET-TAIL PLUS antibiotic tablet (yellow tablet) to your pet's water for five days, then add the probiotic (blue tablet) on the sixth day to restore beneficial digestive bacteria. All tablets are fortified with vitamins and electrolytes to support your small pet's health.

Tablets will create bubbles as they dissolve.  This fizz-action releases air into the bottle bottle that in turn builds up pressure.  It is a good idea to either 1) allow tablets to dissolve completed before adding on the water bottle's cap and tightening or 2) press the ball inwards to release the built-up pressure as the tablet fully dissolves. Tablets may also be dissolved in a measuring cup or drinking glass, and treated water then transferred into the pet's water bottle.

Benefits

THE 5-IN-1 ACTION OF OASIS WET-TAIL PLUS and WHY IT WORKS:
Oasis WET-TAIL PLUS is the first product to offer both an effective antibiotic to treat the symptoms of wet tail diarrhea combined with ingredients to support your pet's entire system while recovering. The additional pro-biotic tablet will reestablish the normal beneficial bacteria your pet needs to survive.

ANTIBIOTICS: The active medication (Chlortetracycline ) is very effective in treating stress related illnesses such as wet-tail. The orange flavoring totally masks any objectionable flavor. The antibiotic is found in the 5 yellow tablets only.

VITAMINS: The vitamins found in all 6 tablets support your pet's need for nutritional elements while it is fighting illness and may not have an appetite. Many pets do not eat enough while ill and may not consume essential vitamins required for nutritional balance. Certain vitamins (such as the vitamin B group) are vital for proper nervous system function and appetite stimulation. Lack of vitamins can contribute to stress in your pet, cause illness or prevent recovery from disease.

ELECTROLYTES: Electrolytes are elements vital to proper body chemistry. Lack of water consumption while ill and the resulting dehydration will adversely affect the electrolyte balance. The electrolytes in WET-TAIL PLUS will replace those lost through illness, stress related diarrhea and subsequent dehydration. Electrolytes are included in all 6 tablets.

PRO-BIOTICS: Pro-biotics are safe and natural beneficial bacteria that are normally found in the intestinal tracts of healthy animals. Unfortunately, beneficial "good" bacteria are killed off by the same antibiotics used against the disease causing "bad" organisms, and must be replaced. Giving your pocket pet the pro-biotics included in WET-TAIL PLUS is much the same as using acidophilus cultured milk or yogurt to help get your system back to normal after a case of the flu. Pro-Biotics are included in the final blue tablet.

Causes of Stress

Stress may be caused by any change in your pet's environment or living habits such as being shipped to the pet store, being moved to a new home or new cage, or a change in the arrangement or set-up of the pet's existing home. Disruption of the food pantry area is especially upsetting to hamsters, and the introduction of a new diet with unfamiliar ingredients can be both emotionally stressful and physically hard on your pet. Changes in a pet's living conditions should be made gradually if at all. Pocket pets such as hamsters, mice, rats and gerbils are creatures of routine and habit, and do not understand the changes made by people caring for them. To avoid stress, clean only part of the cage at any time, and leave the food storage pantry area alone and undisturbed (particularly for hamsters.) If there is damaged or spoiled food, remove only that portion of the food pantry and leave the rest where the pet knows it is safe and available. Pet animals gain security from knowing that their source of food is safe and available at all times.

Diet

HOW DIET AFFECTS YOUR POCKET PET: Stress and the resulting wet-tail diarrhea can be caused by absence of food and/or water, or an incorrect diet. The preferred diet for hamsters and other pocket pets is a "formed" diet in the shape of pellets, cubes or blocks. This allows the animal to gnaw on the food which contributes to good dental health, and prevents selective eating. Each bite is a uniform blend of all the total nutrients your pocket pet needs, and it cannot eat only its favorite pieces.

Diets that are "mash" style are comprised of loose grains and seeds, which do not fulfill total nutritional requirements if and when a pet picks and chooses only what it wants to eat. Loose mash style feeds can be shuffled out of feed dishes, walked through and scattered or contaminated with urine or feces.

Hamsters are apparently more susceptible to vitamin deficiencies than other small animal pets, and fat levels appear to be critical to their survival. To prevent diet related stress, keep your hamster on a consistent formed diet, and if absolutely necessary to change the diet, do so gradually. If offering dark leafy greens or fresh carrots once or twice a week, be sure that the food is washed thoroughly.

Symptoms

SYMPTOMS OF ILLNESS MAY INCLUDE: obvious changes in behavior or physical appearance such as weight loss, hunched posture, hair coat that is ungroomed or "standing up". The pet may sit in one position with its eyes squinted, have a lack of appetite, or suffer from dehydration or diarrhea. The animal may not want to be handled, or may show signs of depression or anxiety. Sick hamsters and some other pocket pets often have dry looking ears (a sign of dehydration) held back against the head (often with a folded look.) Sick hamsters that are not eating will have empty cheek pouches which give the face a thin, lean look. Any sign of a distended belly is a sign of digestive trouble that may be wet-tail in the advanced stages.

The serious condition known as "wet-tail" or Proliferative Ileitis (a stress induced watery diarrhea) is most often characterized by a wet or matted tail and/or lower belly area, with obvious staining from diarrhea. Wet-tail is thought to be bacterial in origin, likely infectious and often fatal unless treated very early. When stress of any kind upsets a small pocket pet's (particularly a hamster's) natural defenses, the animal becomes susceptible very quickly to wet-tail disease. Since wet-tail is very difficult to control, any symptoms such as those listed above are indications that your hamster needs help urgently... do not delay treatment until you actually see signs of diarrhea.

NOTE: To guard against infection transmission when receiving new hamsters, mice, rats, gerbils or other pocket pets, thoroughly wash any plastic pet containers used for transporting your new pet. Use hot soap and water followed by soaking in a solution of 10 parts water and 1 part bleach. Dispose of or cardboard pet-caddy boxes promptly. Keep new pets separate for at least 7 days.

Treatment

TREATMENT & PREVENTION OF STRESS ILLNESS: Use Oasis WET-TAIL PLUST as directed. The antibiotic will act immediately to treat the symptoms of illness. The vitamins and electrolytes will support your pet's nutritional needs to battle stress and illness as it recovers and settles into its new home and begins to eat normally. The pro-biotic will protect or replace beneficial bacteria that naturally occur in the intestinal tract that may be destroyed by the antibiotic or compromised during times of stress. If you are buying a new pet, you may not have any access to health history such as the previous administration of antibiotics. The use of antibiotics should be carefully monitored, since the beneficial bacteria that naturally occur in the intestines are killed off along with any disease causing pathogens. Using Oasis WET-TAIL PLUS with pro-biotics helps your pet continue to heal following the antibiotic treatment.

To help in preventing stress to your new pet, limit the amount of time spent handling it, and do not wake it up while it is sleeping in its nest for the first week or 10 days.

DIRECTIONS FOR ADMINISTERING OASIS WET-TAIL PLUS: Add fizz-tabs to drinking water as follows: Use Oasis WET-TAIL PLUST as directed for at least 6 days (5 days of yellow antibiotic formula, 1 or more days of the blue pro-biotic formula.) Always use all 6 tablets. The antibiotic will treat or prevent diarrhea (wet-tail), while the vitamins and electrolytes will support your pet's nutritional needs to battle stress. The pet that suffers most often from stress illness is the hamster. The probiotics included in the final blue tablet will replace beneficial bacteria that naturally occur in the intestinal tract that may have been destroyed by the antibiotics.

Dosage - Add fizz-tabs to drinking water as follows: Day 1 - Dissolve one yellow tablet into 2 oz of water. Day 2 thru 5 -Dissolve one yellow tablet into 4 oz of water each day. This gives 5 days of continuous antibiotic treatment. Change water daily on days 1 through 5. Day 6 - Dissolve the blue pro-biotic tablet into 4 ounces of water to produce a solution containing beneficial microorganisms. Use this solution for 3 days or until consumed. If pet develops signs of illness or stress following treatment, consult your veterinarian.

If your pet still shows signs of illness following use of WET-TAIL PLUS for 6 or more days, a second course of treatment using WET-TAIL PLUS is recommended. Should symptoms increase or still persist, it is advised that your take your pet to a qualified veterinarian. Watch your pet carefully for signs of relapse. Using Oasis ALIVE & WELL following an illness of any sort is a good way to offer your pet supportive, non-medicated treatment as it recuperates.

Precautions: Keep out of reach of children. For use with pet animals only. Store in a cool, dry place.
