Oasis Herb & Vitamin Skin Healing Cream is ideal for use with cage birds of any type.  While it is unusual to have any need for first-aid cream for birds, when the need does arise it is very important that the cream being used is natural and safe. Birds will naturally attempt to clean off anything on their feathers – be it blood, excretions from a wound such as pus, or the medication you apply to treat the conditions.  Oasis Herbal Skin Healing Cream is safe if ingested by the bird.

Human liquid treatments such as first aid sprays, mercurochrome or merthiolate should never be used on a bird; nor should creams such triple-antibiotic formulas unless directed by a veterinarian. All species react to treatment elements differently – so what might be safe for use on a human can in theory be fatal to a bird.

INJURIES THAT MIGHT REQUIRE TREATMENT:

Single caged birds are usually fairly safe.  Most in-cage injuries occur due to inappropriate cage construction (cage bars too widely spaced, doors that can trap a bird, etc.) or broken cage parts (loose cage bars ends that have come un-welded.) Most sore feet occur due to incorrect perching (textures plastic perches can rub sores, as an cement perches.) Multiple birds caged together in pet-bird sized cages can be over-crowded, which will encourage dominant birds to peck at and injure more recessive or weaker birds. Leg bands that are the wrong size or type can cause loss of skin between the band and the leg.  One of the highest risks is allowing free-flying birds out-of-cage liberty and access to household items.

So - while uncommon, birds can and do suffer injury such as minor cuts, lacerations, abrasions, burns (from heat lamps or other heat sources, contact with space-heaters or cooking stoves or equipment), skin irritations and bite wounds (from cage-mates or rodent pests.) Oasis Herbal Skin Healing Cream with Vitamin E or Birds is effective when used on foot sores and dry, irritated skin on feet and legs such as occurs on older birds. Ideal for surface dermatitis or areas irritated due to feather plucking.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: If possible, have a second person hold the bird in need of treatment.  Larger birds can be "toweled” – wrapped in a bath towel to secure the wings, body and feet… covering the head lightly to form a blind-fold effect can calm a frightened bird. Open the towel to expose the area in need of treatment. Clean the affected area as best you can. If area is covered with feathers, it is best to pluck area if possible to ensure best application and results. If feathers need to be trimmed rather than plucked, be certain that you NEVER cut a growing pinfeather. Apply Herbal Skin Healing Cream with Vitamin E as often as necessary, keeping the healing skin coated and soft during the healing process.
